Flag of Suriname

The Flag of Suriname is formed by five horizontal bands of green (top, double width), white, red (quadruple width), white, and green (double width). There is a large, yellow, five-pointed star centered in the red band.
The flag was adopted on November 25, 1975, upon the independence of Suriname. The star represents the unity of all ethnic groups, the red stripe stands for progress and love, the green for hope and fertility, and the white bands for peace and justice.
The pre-independence flag consised of five colored stars connected by an ellipse. The colored stars represent the major ethnic groups that comprise the Surinamese population: the original Amerindians, the colonizing Europeans, the Africans brought in as slaves to work in plantations and the Hindus, Javanese and Chinese who came as indentured workers to replace the Africans who escaped slavery and settled in the hinterland. The ellipse represents the harmonious relationship amongst the groups.

I was walking like a lazy boy on the street when he’s leaving from home by saluting mother. He was very proud, didn’t forget to explain me while passing that the toy is his own development, showing the steering wheel also developed by him for easy, functional drive.
I’m not sure how he passed deposit of empty bottles ;)

Funny and dangerous ritual in Paramaribo. All the residences and companies in city celebrates coming new year with millions of firecrackers. Then millions of millions red cartons stays on ground for few days. They are melting quickly after rains. Curios visitors are waiting one of ending part of longest firecrackers.

Her mother was sitting and looking from backside of boat while waiting boat driver at Leonsberg Pier. Was mother offer a favor? Because mother were selected flood part of boat for sitting.

I was walking in the heart of Paramaribo during last day of 2007. Probably he was dreaming while getting great pleasure from ice cream. Deep cracks on his hand was telling this is one of rare moment for him.

Potato Seller

An alone potato seller with two other ladies at next room. Maybe a wife or workers.
He was rejected me several times while trying to have his permission for photographing him. Finally I got it one early morning and he said "Yes !" while taking a deeply breath from his cigarette. It must be so pleasurable for him.
